Artist search

Mensaje por xtramirez »

Hola. First of all, I hope you speak English because I don 't speak Spanish, and second, I hope I 'm writing this in the right place. I 'm trying to identify some comic artists who I believe are Spanish and had their stories printed in English magazines but in Greek as well (I know since I am Greek). Do you think you can assist me? If yes, I 'll post a couple of pictures for you to see. Gracias... :D

Hi, xtramirez.

Of course, link your images so we can see them but you must to upload them in another site since in this forum it is not allowed.

Perhaps you refer to "Agori" (ΑΓΟΡΙ):
http://www.cachislamar.com/foro/viewtopic.php?t=2099
"Superlópez" and other Spanish series were published in that magazine.

Yes, that 's what I 'm talking about. I 'm doing an index of all the stories that were printed in that anthology, and I 'm looking for the authors as well. Of course there was the rival publication "Blek" too, but that 's for later since it 's a much harder task.

The first story is a football strip called "Kyser 's experiment" and was originally published in Crunch magazine in the UK. Two pages can be seen here and here. The artist has drawn a couple more football stories, and the guys at the comicsuk.co.uk forum think he might be Spanish.

The second story is called Trafalgar and has a Spanish point of view, so perhaps the author is Spanish as well. The first page can be seen here. I hope you can help....

Ufff... I'm not so good identifying realistic drawing. Anyway, it seems "Trafalgar" is an adaptation from Benito Pérez Galdós' Episodios Nacionales scripted by Juan Manuel González Cremona and drawn by Vicente Torregrosa Manrique as you see in the second page. It was first published in Joyas Literarias Juveniles #261 (Bruguera 1982) and then in Mortadelo Especial #151 (Bruguera 1983). These images are from the later publication.

About the football story... no idea, sorry, but I think perhaps it would be also published on 'Mortadelo Especial'.

Yes, that 's it. There were more stories from Joyas Literarias Juveniles that Agori printed, and some of them were printed in the "rival" Blek as well.

Was Cremona an artist as well? Because he is credited with drawing Manix for Eagle in the '80s (on a couple of UK sites). Unless there is another Cremona...

Also, what is the first name of Cassarel who wrote scripts for Joyas Literarias Juveniles as well?

I don't think so, Cremona (usually credited as "González Cremona") was a writter only. There would be another Cremona but I don't know about him.

As I see here, "Cassarel" and "Casarel" were pen-names for José Antonio Vidal Sales.

Edited: OK. I see in Wikipedia Manix was drawn by Manuel Carmona, not Cremona. :D
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manix

So he must be Manuel Carmona Ruiz.

I agree with Kaximpo's information on "Trafalgar".

Spanish? I doubt it.

Those are English pages for sure: "C.27.1.79" is good footstep: "C" might be a reference for the title or for the chapter (chapter A, B, C. and so ono). Te numbers is the date: day-month-year".

Very few pannels per page in an irregular position along the page: English publisher. IPC or Syndication International...

A Spanish artist? Well: a Spanish artist in a bad day. Look at the perspective of the soccer field. The bodies are like zombies. Foreign agencies chose good artists because they wanted quality at a low price (low price for Britain, high price for Spanish standards in the 1960-1970).

I do NOT recognize the design for any Spanish artist in the ninenteen seventees. Not anyone from "Joyas Literarias" (the colecction of Tragalgar)

The C stands for Crunch magazine where the story was printed. And truthfully, he 's probably not a Spanish artist. I 'll do some more digging...

This is a story that we weren 't able to identify. Do you have any idea who the artist could be? Don 't know if he 's Spanish, just asking...

It reminds me of "The Great Escape" (the film). But I have no idea.

OK, new search. This strip is called "The little pioneer" and its first two pages are here and here. Any ideas about the artist?

If it were a Spanish artist, it could be Fuentes Man, according to the faces of the woman and the old man.

There is something weird about the ink or about the printing. Fuentes Man

Look at these faces:

http://www.eldesvandelcoleccionista.net ... S-MAN.html

For me, Francisco Fuentes Manuel aka Fuentes Man is one of the most exquisite artist for the long-living series El Capitán Trueno.

Welcome to the forum xtramirez, very interested research. Could I ask you how did you find our site? Probably you found the topic about "Agori", that was posted not so long ago.

Did we ask SeñorOgro about this? He is a human comic-encyclopedia, he may know something about it.
